The opening performance of this semester's art residency stages Taiwanese traditional folk singing artist TSENG Po-Hao. Aligning with the creative theme "This Place Called Home," Tseng will be performing four songs that portray the circumstances of different families based on the stories of the artist's friends. Two of the songs depict the challenges of foreign spouses living in Taiwan, such as being away from their homeland and cultural differences, as well as becoming single parents, and transform these hardships into music in the form of Hengchun folksongs. The two other works are new productions that describe the cross-national family life of two youngsters who must accommodate life in a foreign land due to their parents' international marriage but are later separated from their families for the purpose of receiving education. After interviewing the two youngsters, Tseng adapts their experiences into song and presents their cross-national family experiences through music.
